NO DEAL AT ICELAND

Yes, this was the day in 2016 that the Icelanders overcame us on the pitch and on the terraces in the European UEFA Championships last 16.
Joe Hart threw one into the net and England lost 2-1. Rooney had scored in the 4th minute from the penalty spot but he failed to win a header at a long throw making his contribution to the game even and his mates failed to stay with runners.

With 67% of the play, 18 shots with 5 on target, this compared to Iceland's 8 shots and 5 on target. Roy Hodgson resigned immediately after the game and in the post match press meeting he started with the phrase "I don't know what I am doing here".

In only three matches between the two countries Iceland have won one, drawn one in 1982 and lost 6-1 in an "international" tournament in 2004. This team was the "golden generation" with Gerrard, Rooney, Lampard, Owen, Scholes and Beckham and co.

Iceland is the smallest nation by population to reach the WC Finals. Population??
