Matches in the finals were  played in Saitama v Sweden (1-1)  and Nigeria in Osaka (0-0) results that put England in second place behind the Swedes. England then beat Denmark (3-0) in Niigata, losing to Brazil 1-2 in Shizuoka, the loan goal coming from Michael Owen. We should have won that game, with Ronaldinho sent off for violent conduct after 51 minutes, stamping on Danny Mills.

Remember the 5-1 drubbing of the enemy in Munich on September 1st?? Owen scored 3, Gerrard and Heskey. I do...I was invited to a drinks' party at Tim Young's house in Farnham and listened to the game on the radio driving over and then missed the thing live; being polite as possible news filtered through from his children's TV room.
